The spirit of old school arcade racing is reborn in a homage to everything from OutRun to Lotus Turbo Challenge, and despite a few bumps in the road it’s all just as much fun as you remember. I cannot wait to spend more time with it, and hope the devs get a chance to make more titles that rekindle my childhood nostalgia.
If you grew up in arcades loving those classic sit-down racing games, this is one you need to play. So when something as special and fun as Horizon Chase Turbo comes along, I feel the need to shout it from the rooftops. There is a lot of crap to wade through in gaming today.
It’s got some rough edges, and I really wish it had a solid online multiplayer component, but ultimately I like Horizon Chase Turbo probably more than I should. Go head to-head with players in Competition Mode or play in Co-Op Mode with a friend. You can re-live the Sonic of the past with an exciting new twist on classic zones while fighting against new bosses and Dr. Multiple playable characters give you the ability to go explosively fast as Sonic, soar as Tails, or power through tough obstacles with Knuckles’ brute strength. The man behind interactive storytelling triumphs Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls has brought us what is perhaps his most fully formed and satisfying story yet, a work that examines the concept of machine intelligence with nearly as much insight and sympathy as Isaac Asimov’s finest novels about robots and just as much style as Alex Garland’s Ex Machina.Įxperience the ultimate celebration of past and future in Sonic Mania, an all-new 2D Sonic adventure running at a crisp 60FPS with stunning HD retro-style graphics. It proves that interactivity and focused storytelling aren’t mutually exclusive and that the two can enhance each other given a proper degree of talent behind the scenes. Though it comes off as heavy-handed at times, Detroit tells an endearing story that verges on the profound, diving deep into the nature of humanity itself.
While it might still suffer from some annoying QTE moments and a few narrative speedbumps, it delivers on promises that many other games in this genre make yet fail to keep, especially in how the choices you make can lead to very different experiences down the line. If you’re in it for the over the top moments, you’ll probably get what you’re looking for.ĭetroit: Become Human is a testament to how far the genre of interactive narrative storytelling has come and, at the same time, how much further it can go. Detroit: Become Human improves on Quantic Dream’s past efforts, but still somewhat fails to provide an affecting branching narrative.
